Kerr Went On To Winnipeg And Set Up A Practice In 1880 And Moved His Family Into The Only Brick House In Winnipeg, At Donald And Graham. He Confined All His Effort To Surgery And Became A Surgeon To The Winnipeg General Hospital, Physician To The Maternity Hospital And The Children'S Home As Well As Chief Surgeon To The Cpr. In 1882 He Was Medical Officer Of Health For The City At $!200 Per Year; And For The Provincial Government To Check On Health Of Immigrants. The Manitoba Medical College Building Completed In 1884 Had Dr. Kerr As Its First Dean. In 1885 Metis Under Riel Rebelled A 2nd Time And Dr. Kerr Was Surgeon Major To Command The Base Hospital At The Winnipeg General Hospital. He Later Went To George Washington University On Staff. His Health Deteriorated And He Bought An Estate "Antrim" In Virginia And Bred Horses. He Died February 2, 1911 |

He Subsequently Rose To Become Commandant Of The Colonial Forces In New South Wales, Australia, With The Rank Of Major General. He Died Shortly After His 80th Birthday |

description: | Paul Kane (1810-1871), portraitist and artist of aboriginal culture. He emigrated from Ireland to Toronto in 1819. He had some early training in Canada and Detroit. He worked in the USA from 1831-1841 before studying in Italy. He began painting aboriginals around the Great Lakes in 1845. From 1846-1848 he travelled across the continent with the help of Sir George Simpson and returned with many sketches, drawings, a journal of the trip, and a collection of artifacts. He painted many oil paintings. He sold one hundred to George Allen in 1852. He published "Wanderings of an Artist" which was illustrated with chromolithographs and engravings from his work (1859). |

She Was Awarded The Royal Red Cross, First Class Which Was Presented To Her In Brandon In 1919 By Hrh The Prince Of Wales. After Her Marriage To Robert Darrach In 1923 She Engaged In Volunteer Social Service Work And Was A Founder Of The Citizens Welfare League, Which Lead To The Development Of The Children'S Aid Society, Christmas Cheer Registry And Children'S Summer Camps. In 1936 She Became The Dean Of Women At Brandon College. Darrach Hall At Brandon University Is Named After Her. It Is Pronounced "Dar-Rah" Hall (The Irish Way). In 1971 Brandon University Gave Her An Honourary Doctor Of Laws Degree. She Died Sept 25, 1974 |

Military District #10 Was Created In 1872 And In 1873 Fort Osborne Barracks, Named After Him, Was Located Where The Legislative Building Now Stand In 2002. During The North West Rebellion In 1885 He Raised The Winnipeg Light Infantry, Later Known As The 91st Battalion. He Lived In Winnipeg Until Shortly Before His Death. He Died In Wales In May 1887 |
